Dr. Jennifer Brayton is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Ryerson UNiversity, where she also serves as the undergraduate Sociology Student Advisor. Prior to starting at Ryerson in 2003, she was a sessional lecturer at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton NB, where she taught Multimedia Studies, Women’s Studies, and Sociology. She is an active member and staff of PAR-L, the Canadian Women’s Studies Association, and the Canadian Sociological Association, and the Film Studies Association of Canada. Dr. Brayton’s areas of research and teaching include cybercultural studies (cyberfeminism and cyberactivism), popular culture, gender and technology studies, fandom studies, and representations of sexuality. She is an active member in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, and supervises several MA and PhD students in the Communications & Culture program.
She is currently writing an undergraduate level textbook on Canadian popular cultural industries for Oxford University Press. Her most recent co-authored publication is in the current edition of the Canadian Review of Sociology and Anthropology, andis entitled, “Feminist Activists On-line: A Study of the PAR-L Research Network.”
